Self-regulated AGN feedback of light jets in cool-core galaxy clusters

چکیده
Heating from active galactic nuclei (AGN) is thought to stabilize cool-core clusters, limiting star formation and cooling flows. We employ radiative magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) simulations model light AGN jet feedback with different accretion modes (Bondi-Hoyle-Lyttleton cold accretion) in an idealised Perseus-like cluster. Independent of the probed model, efficiency, density resolution, cluster self-regulates central entropies times consistent observed clusters this non-cosmological setting. find that increased efficiencies lead more intermittent powers enhanced rates. Our fiducial low-density jets can easily be deflected by orbiting gaseous filaments, which redistributes angular momentum leads extended gas distributions isotropic bubble distributions. In comparison our low momentum-density jets, high heat less efficiently enable a persistent cold-gas disc perpendicular centrally confined. Cavity luminosities measured generally reflect intracluster medium (ICM) correspond averaged are relatively insensitive short periods low-luminosity injection. Cold structures MHD show variety morphologies ranging discy very filamentary structures. particular, magnetic fields crucial inhibit unrealistically massive discs redistributing between hot phases fostering elongated filaments supported pressure.

Feedback in AGN heating of galaxy clusters
One of the challenges that models of AGN heating of the intracluster medium (ICM) face, is the question how the mechanical luminosity of the AGN is tuned to the radiative losses of the ICM. Here we implement a simple 1D model of a feedback mechanism that links the luminosity of the AGN to the accretion rate. We demonstrate how this simple feedback mechanism leads to a quasi-steady state for a b...
متن کاملSelf-Regulation of AGN in Galaxy Clusters
Cool cores of galaxy clusters are thought to be heated by low-power active galactic nuclei (AGN), whose accretion is regulated by feedback. However, the interaction between the hot gas ejected by the AGN and the ambient intracluster medium is extremely difficult to simulate as it involves a wide range of spatial scales and gas that is Rayleigh-Taylor (RT) unstable. Here we present a series of t...
متن کاملSimulations of cosmic ray feedback by AGN in galaxy clusters
Feedback processes by active galactic nuclei (AGN) appear to be a key for understanding the nature of the very X–ray luminous cool cores found in many clusters of galaxies. We investigate a numerical model for AGN feedback where for the first time a relativistic particle population in AGN-inflated bubbles is followed within a full cosmological context. In our high-resolution simulations of gala...
متن کاملBeyond the Cool Core: The Formation of Cool Core Galaxy Clusters
Why do some clusters have cool cores while others do not? In this paper, cosmological simulations, including radiative cooling and heating, are used to examine the formation and evolution of cool core (CC) and non-cool core (NCC) clusters. Numerical CC clusters at z = 0 accreted mass more slowly over time and grew enhanced cool cores via hierarchical mergers; when late major mergers occurred, t...
متن کاملMid - Infrared Spectra of Cool - Core Galaxy Clusters
We have obtained mid-infrared spectra of nine cool-core galaxy clusters with the Infrared Spectrograph aboard the Spitzer Space Telescope. X-ray, ultraviolet and optical observations have demonstrated that each of these clusters hosts a cooling flow which seems to be fueling vigorous star formation in the brightest cluster galaxy. Our goal is to use the advantages of the mid-infrared band to im...
